As we approach the end of Season 4. Mulder’s past comes back to haunt him, when he attempts a new form of therapy to remember his childhood. Unfortunately for him, this treatment involved ketamine – a powerful hallucinogenic drug, so instead of being date raped, Mulder finds himself in a house with two dead bodies. Looking like the primary suspect,
Scully sets out to prove his innocence, she determined the dead people were alien abductees who also went to the same psychologist as Mulder did to get dosed up on ketamine. With proof that they shot each other, Mulder continues the treatment – ignoring the medial advice and wishing only to remember the truth. During which he sees the smoking man arguing with his mum and dad, and Samantha hiding during all of this… with these memories alive, he heads straight back to his mother’s vineyard (or is that Marthas Vineyard?) and accuses her of being involved with smoking man years ago… to which he asks “Who is my father?!”.
Fox gets a good old slap from mummy Mulder and is reminded that she is his mother…. but confesses to nothing else. After which – he goes back to their summer house to remember more. Scully follows him, and tries to talk him out of the crazy treatment… to which Mulder pulls a gun on Scully. She reminds him that he’s been injected with a powerful hallucinogenic, and that these memories may just be the result of being incredibly tweaked. However nothing new comes to light – only an Image of Samantha fading to dust, leaving behind the Cigarette Smoking Man.
Mulder recovers, shoots some holes in the wall, and curls into a ball, Scully comforting him once again.
